Complaints and Problems With a Lender

Three kinds of problem reach this page, and each has its own door. An error on this site comes to us and gets fixed. An application question goes to the platform that holds the file. A problem with a signed loan starts with the lender and, left unresolved, moves to FCNB or the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada.

Something on this site is wrong

Errors on Loans Saint John are ours to fix. Email naming the page and the sentence, and expect a reply within a few business days. A confirmed mistake, a wrong dollar figure, a stale New Brunswick rule or a Saint John detail that no longer holds, gets corrected with the updated date moved to match. The contact page carries the full routing table for everything that is not ours.

Your application

Application status lives with the platform, whose support contact appears on the form and in the confirmation email it sends. Nothing you submit passes through this site, so nobody here can look up a file or explain a decline. The how it works page names the four steps, which makes it easier to describe where things stopped.

Complaints and Problems With a Lender, Saint John

A loan you hold

A problem with a signed loan starts with the lender, whose complaint contact must appear on the agreement. Under the Cost of Credit Disclosure and Payday Loans Act and the Payday Lending Regulation, a licensed New Brunswick payday lender must:

  • keep the cost at or under $14 per $100 borrowed;
  • advance no more than $1500 and no more than 30% of the net pay you will receive during the term;
  • set repayment as one payment on your next pay date, within 62 days;
  • accept a cancellation at no cost within 48 hours of the money arriving, Sundays and other holidays not counted, and hand you a cancellation form when the loan is made;
  • write no rollovers, hold no second loan with you at the same time and take no security or wage assignment;
  • charge on default at most 2.5% a month, not compounded, plus at most $20 per dishonoured cheque or pre-authorized debit;
  • hold an FCNB licence for its lending, online lending included, with an online lender's licence naming its website.

Put the complaint in writing, date it and keep a copy. If the pay date cannot work, call the lender before the debit is tried; New Brunswick law gives no extended payment plan, so the earlier the call, the more room there is to arrange something.

Lender conduct

When a lender will not fix a breach, the file goes to FCNB, the Financial and Consumer Services Commission, which licenses every payday lender serving New Brunswick and takes complaints about them. Bring the agreement, a record of each debit, the lender's messages and the dates. For rights that apply across Canada, or a complaint about a federally regulated bank, the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada is the federal door.

What we can and cannot do

Our reach ends at our own pages. We can correct them and we can name the right door; we cannot cancel a loan, move a payment date, refund a fee or make any lender answer, because we hold no account with any lender and no window into your application, as the about page explains. A regulator can order a licensed lender to put things right; we can only tell you which regulator. No outcome is promised here.

What we keep

Complaint emails and our replies stay on file until the matter closes and are then deleted. None of it is shared with any lender or with the platform.

How Loans Saint John makes money: loanssaintjohn.ca is a free loan connection service, not a lender. When you apply, we match your application with licensed Canadian lenders and earn a referral fee from the lender if your loan funds. This never changes your rate or costs you anything. We do not make credit decisions and never charge borrowers. The lender sets and discloses the cost before you sign; payday fees are capped by provincial law and installment loans run 18% to 35% APR. All lending is subject to lender approval and provincial rules.
