St. Martins is the fishing village on the Bay of Fundy about 28 miles east of Saint John by Route 111, part of the village of Fundy-St. Martins since 2023. This page covers the loans St. Martins households bridge winters with, and the $14 per $100 cap New Brunswick puts on payday borrowing.
A harbour that lives by the tide chart
The sea caves east of the harbour empty at low tide and fill again by supper, and the Fundy Trail Parkway starts just beyond the village. That tide chart is also the business plan: boats, inns and tour operations all read it daily through a season that holds from June to October.
Housing is village homes, farmhouses and converted cottages, most on wells and septic. The 2023 reform folded the village into Fundy-St. Martins, but the lending rules never moved; they are provincial from end to end.
Applying from the end of Route 111
Route 111 runs from the east side of Saint John past the airport to the village, and it is a long road to drive for paperwork. The loans St. Martins residents arrange are online instead: a phone form at the kitchen table, automated bank verification, then an Interac e-transfer after approval, evenings and weekends included. The how it works page lists the steps, and the Loans Saint John homepage explains the free matching service.

Boats, inns and a June to October clock
In season the village earns several ways at once: lobster and scallop boats and the wharf work around them, the inns, restaurants and tour operations that follow the visitor run, trades and home building through the warm months, and a commuter share driving to the east side and the refinery gates on shift pay.
Then the last visitors leave in October, the boats tie up between seasons, and the village waits on spring while the oil furnace does not. The cash flow story here is the calendar itself.
October to spring: what loans St. Martins carries
| Village situation | The gap | What tends to fit |
|---|---|---|
| Inn or restaurant worker in November | The season's last cheque already spent | A payday loan only if winter income is arriving |
| Boat household between seasons | Gear or repairs before the next opening | An installment loan over months |
| Refinery gate commuter | One bill landing mid pay cycle | A payday loan sized to one deposit |
| Oil heated farmhouse | A January fill in the quiet months | A small loan against scheduled deposits |
At the cap, $500 costs $70 and is repaid as one $570 debit. Costs past $1500 belong on the installment loans Saint John page at 18% to 35% APR over 3 to 60 months. A thin winter that left marks on a credit file is the subject of the bad credit loans Saint John page, where approval is read from income, and a gap that reopens each fall belongs in the Saint John loan FAQ.

New Brunswick rules at the end of the road
Distance from the city does not thin the rulebook. Lenders serving St. Martins hold a licence from the Financial and Consumer Services Commission (FCNB) under the Cost of Credit Disclosure and Payday Loans Act, and disclose terms inside the limits: $100 to $1500, up to 62 days, one repayment on the next pay date, at most 30% of the net pay received during the term, borrowers 19 and over.
The cancellation window is 48 hours after the money arrives, Sundays and holidays not counted. Rollovers are banned, one loan per lender at a time, default charges cap at 2.5% a month plus at most $20 per dishonoured payment, and there is no mandatory extended payment plan in this province, so call the lender before a due date slips. FCNB takes complaints; Loans Saint John is a connection service, never a lender.
Back along Route 111, Lakewood sits where the road meets the east side, and Red Head faces the bay below the refinery hill. Both appear on the areas we serve hub.
Apply online from St. MartinsLoans St. Martins FAQ
The inns close in October and my hours end with them. Can I qualify in December?
Only on income still arriving in your account, like winter work, even part time. Lenders read recent deposits, so the season's strong months do not carry a December file on their own.
Is it smarter to arrange borrowing before the season ends?
If a winter shortfall is certain, yes. A small installment loan set up while income is strong is calmer and often cheaper than a payday loan taken in the middle of the quiet months.
Does tip income from the tourist season count?
Tips count when they reach your chequing account as deposits. Cash that never hits the bank is invisible to a lender, which shrinks the loan the file supports.
We are 28 miles from the city. Does funding take longer out here?
No. An e-transfer reaches a St. Martins account at the same speed as an uptown one. Only the lender's approval hours and cutoff times set the clock.
